Organisations, teams and individuals are incredibly complex – they are layered. At Blue Onion we seek to gain an understanding of those layers. How do we do that?

  • Firstly by listening – most people in our experience need a damn good listening to
  • Secondly we seek to understand the complexity of the issue(s) – how layers conflict and frustrate and how they interact and blend
  • Finally we use our knowledge, skills and creativity to deliver the most appropriate solution for your needs

We work with people we like and who share the same values. We don’t and won’t work with you if we don’t believe we can make a positive difference to you or your business.

Inspiration can come from the most unlikely sources. Whilst watching Shrek the following piece gave the inspiration for the company name:

Shrek: There’s a lot more to Ogres than people think
Donkey: Example
Shrek: Ogres are like onions
Donkey: They stink
Shrek: Yes – NO
Donkey: Oh they make you cry
Shrek: No
Donkey: Oh you leave them out in the sun and they get all brown and start sprouting little white hairs
Shrek: No. Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. We both have layers
Donkey: Oh You both have lay-yers! Hey you know what, not everyone likes onions. Everyone likes cake – cakes have layers!

So onions it was. Why Blue? It’s a favourite colour.

PS
When discussing the company name with the founder's father and explaining the metaphor of the onion and the layers, he said ‘Why don’t you call the company Blue Chickens?’ ‘Chickens!’ she said somewhat surprised. ‘They’re good layers’ he said!
